Project Super Budget Introduction

Project Super Budget

This project begins with a free case I received from a co-worker about 1 month ago. This was after being given 2 other white box style old computer towers. Maybe 2 months before this, and up until final inspection I wrote them all off. All except the most recent one I picked up. All of the cases came from another friend of his who was cleaning house. He thought of me and was kind enough to donate all of the cases and included hardware. Also included was 2 boxes with fans, grills, and lots of IDE cables. Not only was it the cleanest; but it had some nice features, plenty of room, and should be simple to mod. To be honest it looked like it was barely used unless the previous owner really cleaned it up.

The whole idea behind this project is to mod the case as much as possible while spending little money or no money. I am looking through my inventory for some parts to use. Most of the parts will be free since they are on hand. Which helps with the stuff I actually have to purchase. This includes but is not limited to; final paint colors, additional add-ons, and/or any extra tools I might need.

Upon getting the case I disassembled it and cleaned the parts I would be reusing. Nothing hardware wise was really salvageable, but the case itself is immaculate for its age. The hardware installed was a AMD socket A platform which dates back to around 2001. The case could be older, but not by much since it features ATX/M-ATX compatibility and fits standard ATX PSUs. Other things I noticed upon inspection and cleaning were quite interesting. Below is a list of my personal likes and dislikes of this case.

Super Budget Case Tear Down

Now comes the fun part stripping the old hardware out, and cleaning the spider webs. This case must not have ran very much it was hardly dusty. There was a bit by the intake fan and around PSU but other then that clean as a whistle. Here are the photos of the tear down, the more I mess with it the more I like this case!

All panels are straight and white!

Front Panel Power/RESET and LED indicator lights

Now onto pulling the remaining hardware and cleaning the case
